sighting in bow?
Just bought a compound bow with truglo lite sights. I have gotten no directions how to adjust the sights. How do adjust them? Which screws do I adjust and how to determine how much to turn them?
I don't quite know if you're asking for help on sighting in your bow or just how to work the adjustments on that particular sight, so I'll guess....
Most sight pins, though I have no experience with Truglo anything so I can only say *most*, use two collar rings that you unscrew/loosen from the pin base that allows you to move the pin in and out in relation to the sight base. That in and out movement adjusts the side to side "windage" of the sight. Most then also include a third ring that's meant to lock the other two in place once you get the pin sighted in. Most also include a slotted base that the loosened pins can move up and down in....that adjusts your "elevation" on your sight. Once you get the windage and elevation adjusted correctly, the pin will be centered exactly where the arrow will hit when it's loosed. You're going to need to figure out how to adjust your own sight in terms of those mechanics. Without seeing it, I can't give you any specific instructions.
Sighting in your sight. Best/easiest method I can suggest is one called the "Lewis Walking Pin" method. Named after myself a "few" years ago
Start off by measuring a set distance for your middle pin range. 20 yards, 30, and 40 yards are good. Measure off the 30 yard range and start from there.
You'll need to tighten any one of your pins in place somewhere in the center of your sight for now and use that as the anchor pin. It doesn't matter which one you choose nor if it's even the least bit sighted in. It will be in two minutes. Nock an arrow, draw the bow, sight that anchor pin right on the cross/dot/whatever on your target and let it go. It won't even come close to hitting the dot on the target but it still sights in the pin exactly.
Next step is to hold your bow at arm's length again but undrawn and simply sight that first anchor pin right on the dot again same as before....and then adjust one of the other pins so it hits exactly where the arrow is sticking. Anchor pin on the dot, second pin on the arrow. That second pin is now perfectly sighted in at 30 yards.
Measure your closer range (20 yards), use the sighted in pin as the anchor pin now and loose another arrow. Adjust the next pin so it hits that new arrow impact spot. It's now sighted in perfectly.
Biggest tip I can give you, though....practice, practice, practice! Work on your release, your breathing, your elbow cant etc until it all works. Until you get a bit of practice to remove the other variables, those sights aren't going to really help much.
Welcome to the sport, sir!
