Leatherman Kick Pocket Tool - An Appealing Product That's Lightweight But Still Equipped With Useful Functions
The Leatherman Kick is an appealing multi tool - a touch smaller than the original PST, but at a fraction of the weight.
The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a range of 3 tools created by Leatherman, the other two being the Fuse and the Blast.
Leatherman's Lightweight Offering, the Kick:
The Leatherman Kick benefits from plastic inlayed into the body of the pocket tool which makes it far more comfortable to grip than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a much welcomed addition, as people who have owned or used a PST will attest to! The set of pliers have been updated to increase strength without having an impact on the multi tool's size or bulk, and seems to have made a difference- they are a little odd to look at for people who are used to other tools, yet this is a tool, not a fashion show, and they work.
The Leatherman Kick also features a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, a pair of flathead screwdrivers, as well as a clip- point knife. The tool options may be bare on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of a series of products. The upside is that the tools (primarily the screwdrivers) seem to be a little better than other multi's - the shafts are slightly longer, allowing a little more versatility than you might expect, and a better chance at hard to access screws. It's a small thing, but it really does add up - especially if it's the only tool you have with you and the screw is buried inside of something.
Leatherman Kick - Features Extended Screwdriver
For sure, the Kick is a decent tool, but it does have it's negatives. Because of it's light weight, the Kick feels inadequate. As it is backed by Leatherman's 25 year warranty, it is a very sturdy tool, however in comparison to several different tools both bigger and smaller, it doesn't feel to be quite as strong. It also might seem a little small to people with bigger hands.
Most importantly, despite the low number of tools on this tool, it does suffer from Leatherman's infamous curse, tool clumping. Why can it be, that a handle with just three tools in it, all pull out every time you try to get only one? With each new generation of multi tools, this issue should be a distant memory.
The Leatherman Kick is good value for money, but not a good choice for a regular user or a bigger person. My suggestion is that it's better suited as a small tool for a lady's purse or as a child's first tool. It could be referred to as a "cute" tool for those folks that don'f often need tools although like to be prepared.
