How to find max and min values?

Find the maximum and minimum values of f(x,y) = x^2 + y^2 subject to the constraint x^4 - y^4 = 1.

I attempted this question and got that the answer should be f(1,0) and f(-1,0) which both equal to 1. Thinking about the 2 functions in 3D, wouldn't it be equal to 1 for every other point as it is a plane? There is is no max and mini values?

f(x,y) = x^2 + y^2

x^4 - y^4 = 1
x^4 = y^4 + 1
x^2 = (y^4 + 1)^(1/2), -y^4 + 1)^(1/2)

f(x,y) = (y^4 + 1)^(1/2) + y^2

f' = (1/2)(y^4 + 1)^(-1/2)(4y^3) + 2y

(1/2)(y^4 + 1)^(-1/2)(4y^3) + 2y = 0
(y^4 + 1)^(-1/2)(y^3) + y = 0
(y^4 + 1)^(-1/2)(y^3) = -y
y^3 = -y(y^4 + 1)^(1/2)
y^6 = y^2(y^4 + 1)
y^6 = y^6 + y^2
y^2 = 0
y = 0

x^4 = y^4 + 1
x^4 = 1
x = 1, -1
