Why did alcohol and 1 No Doz pill have ill effect on me?
Last night i was going out so i had drunk 2 or 3 glasses of champagne, i'd eaten, and then i stupidly took a No-Doz caffeine pill because i felt kind of dejected and tired. I had i think another glass of champagne. About half an hour later it hit me and i didn't feel drunk; i felt really shakey and weak as if i was about to faint or throw up. I was short of breath and had to sit down for a while because i felt so weak. It got quite bad and i really needed breath and my heart beat really fast and it just felt awful. It subsided after about an hour of drinking ALOT of water. Please explain what happened to me, and please no silly or sarcastic answers.
Mark is right for the most part; but in addition, alcohol also thins the blood and weakens the nerve which controls breathing and heart rate. That's why you can die from alcohol poisoning as it weakens that nerve to the point you can stop breathing or your heart can stop beating. So basically, the alcohol was pulling you one way and the No-Doz was pulling you the other. You were getting palpitations because since the alcohol made your blood thinner; it made the No-Doz more effective, which would cause your heart rate to raise, but the alcohol was countering it and making your heart rate go down by weakening the nerve controlling it. That reaction is probably what made you feel shakey, out of breath, etc. Additionally, your liver can only process about a 12oz can of beer per hour, which is why you can easily get alcohol poisoning. So remember, you never mix medicine of any kind with alcohol because it will intensify the effects of the medication. Also, if you are female the chances for alcohol poisoning is much higher. The reason why is because of two major factors: special enzymes in the human stomach and muscle mass. Those special enzymes, which are much lower in quantity in woman than men, help to block and control the absorption of alcohol in the stomach (which is mostly where alcohol is absorbed). Muscle mass plays a big role, because with more muscle comes more metabolism. So the faster the metabolism, the faster the body can remove the alcohol. A woman's body is more fat than muscle. Since alcohol and fat are both water soluble, the alcohol is able to stay in a woman's blood longer. That's why if you take a woman and a man, give them the same amount and type of alcohol, the woman will normally take longer to sober than the man will. Basically, the man's body will traditionally process and remove the alcohol faster than a woman's body will, plus has more alcohol blocking enzymes. This is kinda off topic, but still worth mentioning. Never take Aspirin and Alcohol together, the reason being is because they are both blood thinners. So if you get a bad enough wound, you can bleed to death; which only takes about 4 minutes as your heart will work as a pump and remove it quicker. Never take Aspirin and Ibuprofen together either, they are deadly together and will cause your blood to coagulate (clot) in your veins.
