Making Sure Your Debt Collectors Works Nice
If all else fails – that is as far as the task involves collecting delinquent funds, using debt collectors to run after bad debts is a good business sense. These people are professionally trained for the job even in the extreme of circumstances. It’s a skill with methods and schedules applied, but going after an elusive borrower who has gone incognito also requires a truly persistent, tremendously patient attitude. Else, our poor collectors will run till they can, hardly catching their breath and go home empty handed.
Before setting for the chase, be sure that you hire the services of a bill collector who is familiar with the laws that runs along the nature of ‘Fair Debt Collection’. This way, using threat to scare people into paying their dues can be avoided. Many borrowers admit to loathe threats of allegedly caustic third party debt collectors where reported cases involved verbal and physical harassment perpetrated by debt collectors. It appears that imposing threats to collect debt is a scare tactic that borrowers have learned and have accustomed to dismiss.
Conversely, debt collectors should hold the assertion that while there are laws in place that prevent anyone from being persecuted in any form by third party debt collectors, there are actions that can be legally taken against a person is if he or she purposely violates existing agreement and refuse to pay back what is owed.
Lay out the plans, schedules and documents. You want to schedule your calls - where in some cases may involve your actual participation - with the debt collector acting as a staff to follow things up. Check – and double-check – the exact amount owed by the borrower else you will demand for payment which is more than what the debtor actually owes you and that can be taken against you.
Be aware of the general impression that debt collectors are the kinds who hound debtors with insistent phone calls, with harsh words thrown at the other end of the line. When using debt collectors to collect bad debts, advise your debt collector to practice restraint and to be as diplomatic as possible putting threat of any kind out of the picture. In fact, the debtor might act impertinent let alone dropping the call at once, but you have to kill him or her with your niceness – so to speak, to get your intentions across.
One of the best approaches, and certainly polite, is to explain plainly and clearly how the payment process is meant to operate. It is most businesslike to review the terms of the loan as well as the progress of transactions since the load was acquired. If there were complaints made along the way, make sure those areas were addressed. If you hire a Pro Debt Collector then they should already know how to handle this.
Let the debtor explain his or her side of the issue and take it from there to proceed with the collection. Understand that the debtor, downtrodden and pressured, may act defensive. A wise debt collector should know how attack such attitude.
And tell your debt collector that you do not quite approve of using automated telephone calls to reach out to the debtor.
