Will these materials make an effective archery target?
It seems like the bulk of commercial targets use some sort of foam. I had seen someone say on a website that they doubled up a couple burlap bags and filled them with blown foam insulation, the kind that expands and hardens. I was wondering how viable that would be towards making a target that will stop a 35# draw weight bow without being useless after a few days of shooting.
Specifically, my idea was to triple up on burlap bags and use enough Dow Great Stuff spray-able insulation to fill the bags. Not sure if it will harden to a sufficent degree though. How does this sound?
An arrow will fly clean through foam insulation. Phone books stuffed in a cardboard box works. You want foam with a little more give. The foam that they make pool toys out of works great. If you are planning on it being mobile, the previous two work, but if it is gonna be permanent, you may just want to buy a hay bale as they are easily the best at stopping arrows.
