Bowhunting and using Electronics: Tradition? Engineering? Or Equally?

So, why am I writing this article about technology versus tradition?  Nicely, as a traditionalist when it happens to bow and arrow, I gotta’ let you know, when it happens to security and survival, give me the excessive tech stuff anytime!  There was a time when I figured all I required was a topo map and my trusty compass; do fine with them for quite a number of many years.  That is likely since I am blessed which has a really decent perception of direction and due to the fact I hunted in similar area for many a long time.  BUT…..

I hate it when that occurs!  I broke out my compass.  I was, essentially, heading east…well, a lot more like southeast, but in which in the planet was that darned street?  Need to I go to come back the way in which I experienced arrive?  By now I'm even beginning to doubt my compass and my perception of path.  I started to whistle and yell in hopes that my pal or a person who knew wherever the heck he was would hear and appear to guide me out of the forest.  No response.  Right after I calmed down a minor, I decided to keep on on the way I had been intending.  Following a different hour of climbing around downed trees and 4 or five additional ridges, I lastly identified the path.  I turned north on it, but I arrived to a fork I didn’t don't forget.  Not learning which method to turn in the fork, I just prayed that I was on the primary path, turned all around and walked the five miles in turn to get away.  My close friend showed up in get away about an hour later intending to acquire our two other close friends to go searching for me.  I became quite ashamed to say the least.

I swore that wasn’t gonna happen to me once more.  Previous to the future bowhunting year or so my household and I moved to Colorado.  My sweet wife also acquired me a Garmin GPS (worldwide positioning program) from Cabela’s for Christmas.  And boy, did that can come in useful a limited decades back!  I'm hunting for the earliest time on the Uncompaghre Plateau in western Colorado.  It experienced been raining like ridiculous for significantly on the journey.  Although I was in the forest (extremely thick stands of aspen and spruce) a number of miles from get away, it not just commenced raining once again, it grew to become socked in with fog.  I obtained pretty nervous since I could barely see in which I used to be planning.  Fortunately, in my load up was my GPS, into which I obtained entered a way stage for our get away website the minute we arrived earlier that week.  I had been able to stroll as a result of thick woods, dense fog, and torrential rain directly to get away.  Sure, I however maintain a topo of any location I hunt in my pocket and  the compass in my pack as backup, but will I at any time venture in to the woods again without having my GPS?  Not possibly!  It can be as much a element of my survival gear as the 1st support kit and fire starters in my pack.
